The questions San Diego dancers ask most before booking each 60-minute experience.
Waltz and Foxtrot are the most beginner-friendly ballroom dances—both have slow, predictable timing and form the foundation for every other smooth ballroom style. Our 60-minute Classic Ballroom Experience covers Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, and/or Viennese Waltz at a relaxed beginner pace.
No partner required. Noe dances with solo students directly, and our experiences welcome up to 2 couples at the same flat $97 rate—so you can come alone, with a spouse, or with a friend.
Most students feel comfortable with basic ballroom steps after a single 60-minute session. For social-floor confidence in Waltz and Foxtrot, plan on 4–6 private lessons.
Ballroom Latin includes Rumba, Cha-Cha, Bolero, Mambo, Samba, and East Coast Swing—the styles you'll see at weddings, cruises, and ballroom socials. Social Latin (Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia) is what's played at Latin clubs. We teach both in separate experiences.
Yes—Rumba and Cha-Cha are two of the most popular couples' dances we teach in San Diego. The Ballroom Latin Experience is designed for 2 couples or solo learners and runs a flat $97.
Rumba. It has a slow, steady 'slow-quick-quick' rhythm that makes it easy to feel the beat and connect with a partner before stepping up to faster styles like Cha-Cha or Mambo.
Level Up With Noe teaches East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Jitterbug, and Lindy Hop out of our studio at 7243 Engineer Rd B, San Diego, CA 92111—centrally located for Kearny Mesa, Clairemont, and Mission Valley students.
East Coast Swing is one of the easiest partner dances to pick up—most beginners are dancing basic patterns within the first 30 minutes. West Coast Swing has a steeper learning curve but is the most versatile swing style for modern music.
East Coast Swing fits big band, rockabilly, and upbeat jazz (Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra, Brian Setzer). West Coast Swing works to almost any contemporary pop, R&B, or blues track.
Most couples are first-dance ready in 4–6 private lessons. The 60-minute Wedding Dance Experience is the perfect starting point to learn your song's structure and decide whether you want a simple slow dance or full choreography.
Start 2–3 months before the wedding. That gives you time to learn choreography, practice it at home, and rehearse in your actual wedding shoes without last-minute stress.
Yes—Noe choreographs to your specific song, in your style. Slow ballads, upbeat surprise dances, country, Latin, ballroom—every routine is built around the music you've already chosen.
We teach Texas Two-Step, Country Waltz, Country Swing, and Nightclub Two-Step at our Kearny Mesa studio—built for anyone heading to Moonshine Flats, In Cahoots, or country weddings around San Diego.
No. Country Two-Step is a 'quick-quick-slow-slow' progressive dance traveling around the floor. 'Two-step' in ballroom usually refers to Nightclub Two-Step—a slower, stationary dance to ballads. We cover both.
Boots with smooth leather soles are ideal but not required. Avoid sticky rubber soles—they catch on the floor during pivots. Comfortable jeans and a shirt you can move in are perfect.
The Nightclub & Bar Experience is built exactly for this—we teach versatile moves (Nightclub Two-Step, Hustle, Bachata Moderna, freestyle weight transfers) that look natural at any bar, no choreography required.
Nightclub Two-Step is a slow, smooth partner dance to mid-tempo ballads (think 80s love songs, modern country slow jams). It's the go-to dance whenever a song is too slow for swing but too fast for a sway.
Yes—leading is a teachable skill, not an innate one. Most of our nightclub students are total beginners. You'll learn frame, weight transfer, and 3–4 reliable patterns that work to almost any song.
Café Sevilla (Gaslamp), Sevilla Nightclub, and rotating Latin nights around North Park and Hillcrest are the go-to spots. This experience teaches the Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, and Cumbia basics you actually need on those dance floors.
Bachata. It uses a simple 1-2-3-tap side step and slower tempos, so beginners pick it up faster. Salsa's quick timing and turn patterns are easier to learn once you already feel comfortable leading or following.
Yes—every student learns both roles, which makes you a stronger dancer and a more confident partner once you hit the social floor.
Real stories from students who discovered the joy of dance and gained confidence on the floor.
"My boyfriend and I had some dance experience but waltz was completely outside anything we knew. In just 1.5 hours Noe broke down the basics and slowly added patterns until we left feeling like we looked like we knew what we were doing. Thanks Noe!"

"My boyfriend and I have been taking dance lessons from Noe for about 4 years, following him to his new studio because he is a great teacher and fun to work with. We mostly focus on Latin dances (rumba, salsa) but he's even accommodated requests for hip hop and swing."

"Had my first formal Waltz instructions experience with Noe, and it was a very constructive, engaging, and foundation building experience. I've danced on many floors across the country and rarely have I walked out of instruction feeling like I had the tools needed to improve like I have from the lesson with Noe. Highly, recommend."

The classes have been both FUN and challenging for all levels, including beginners. He is professional, encouraging, and supportive of my learning style too."

The best way to start dancing is with private lessons where you get personalized attention. At Level Up With Noe, we offer 60-minute beginner experiences for $97 where you'll learn fundamentals in a judgment-free environment. No partner or experience needed—just show up ready to have fun!
For most beginners, East Coast Swing or Foxtrot are great starting points because they have simple, repeatable patterns. Swing is fun and energetic, while Foxtrot is smooth and elegant. Both teach you fundamentals like timing, frame, and partner connection that transfer to other dances.
No, you don't need a partner! At Level Up With Noe, about half our students come solo. Your instructor dances with you during lessons, so you get quality practice time. We also welcome couples, friends, or small groups of up to 4 people in our 60-minute experiences.
For social dancing at a wedding, 4-6 private lessons will give you confidence to join the dance floor. For a choreographed first dance, we recommend 4-8 sessions depending on the complexity of your routine and your song length. Most couples feel performance-ready after 6 lessons.
Ballroom dances (Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango) move smoothly around the floor with elegant posture and flowing movements. Latin dances (Cha-Cha, Rumba, Salsa, Bachata) feature more hip action, stationary patterns, and rhythmic, passionate expression. Both are fun—it comes down to the music you love!
Private dance lessons in San Diego typically range from $85-150 per hour. At Level Up With Noe, single lessons are $97, and packages bring the cost down to $85-92 per lesson. Our 60-minute introductory experiences are currently $97 (normally $97), making them the best value for beginners.
Yes! Rhythm is a skill that can be learned, not just an inborn talent. We start with simple exercises to help you feel the beat, then gradually add movement. Many students who thought they 'had no rhythm' surprise themselves within the first few lessons. Patience and practice make all the difference.
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in—think athleisure or business casual. Avoid restrictive jeans or very loose clothing. For shoes, smooth-soled dress shoes work best (no sticky rubber soles). Ladies can wear low heels or flats. Most importantly, bring water and be ready to have fun!
